WEAKNESSES: Toushirou is a pretty jaded old man, obsessed with the past. That said, he's not the greatest at 'moving on'. He's not particularly intelligent, and he's grown lazier and lazier over time. He lacks motivation more than anything, but he's dedicated to whatever scrap of justice is left in the world. Toushirou, thanks to his past, has a pretty shitty reputation.

As far as physical weaknesses go, he's a long-time smoker. He can't run or walk for extended periods of time without becoming short of breath, on top of his age. He's also a pretty heavy drinker when the need/want arises.
STRENGTHS: Physically, the old man's pretty fit. For such an old mind, he's got a young body, excluding his poor blackened lungs. He's cautious, which earns him a few points in 'fight or flee' situations.

PERSONALITY: As explained through his weaknesses and strengths, Toushirou is pretty hard-headed. He's stuck on the past, and it's broken his heart over and over again. Once proud and revered, the old man now spends his days dwelling on everything he's lost. He's determined, at least, to prove that he's still worth a damn. All Toushirou really wants is the respect he lost, even if he's too caught up in himself to seek it out.

BACKGROUND: Zenigata Kyoko, deceased.

The first bed-time story Zenigata Toushirou ever heard was his mother's obituary. She died in childbirth. He was young--too young to know, too young to remember, so he was happy kid. He grew up in a happy home with his father, Musashi, a senior detective. All through his younger years, Toushirou's little head was full of all sorts of notions of justice and bravery and whatever came in between. At age twelve, he'd decided--he wanted to be like Papa. He wanted to be a cop.

From then, every moment he could spare from goofing off with a select group of friends was spent studying. At age twenty-one, he began his career as a beat-cop at the station. At age twenty-three, he married Asakura Yukiko. One year later, on October 27, Yukiko gave birth to their son, Zenigata Shiba. For the next ten years, Toushirou worked hard to make ends meet, while still being the best father he knew how to his son. They were a happy family--happy enough. That day, April 3, 1998, Yukiko gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Between his wife, son, and baby Momoko, Toushirou couldn't have been a happier father or husband. The family fell upon rough times, every once in a while, but it was always settled in one way or another. All four mouths were always fed, and all debts were always paid.

Eight years old. His baby girl was eight years old. She looked so pretty in her birthday dress, with her one loose tooth and her Mama's brown eyes--she was all he could think about that night. April 4, 2006. They got a frantic call from a house some few miles away and, being one of the top fellas on the force at the time, it was now Detective Zenigata Toushirou that took the job. He arrived on the scene some time near ten o'clock, taking note of how big the moon was that night--how full, how white. Just like his baby girl's birthday dress. God, she looked so pretty. He swept the front corner of the tiny apartment, peeking cautiously in through a window, and there they were--two men, musta been his age or older, with a girl barely his daughter's age pinned down and--God, it was awful. Something snapped.

He ran in, pulling his six-shot .357 colt on the two unarmed assailants and ripping a clean three shots into each of their guts. He didn't think, he didn't see--all he could imagine was his daughter--his little girl, sweet little eight-year-old Momoko, being pinned down by those two creeps. There was no question about it. They were dead.

Life has a funny way of slipping through your fingers when there's blood on your hands.

Court case after court case, interview after interview--it wasn't the first time 'unnecessary force' was used, and it sure as hell wouldn't be the last. Some folks called him a hero, some folks called him a murderer. Either way, Toushirou was more than dishonorably discharged from the force. He took up smoking, drinking--anything to keep the phone from ringing, anything to keep Yukiko from crying, anything to get him the hell away from whatever hell he'd made for himself. She left him just two years later, taking Momoko with her. Hell if Toushirou knew where his wife and baby girl ran off to, but he'd see that pretty white birthday dress every night in the quiet moon. Shiba left a while before. Toushirou could only guess it was because he was disgusted with the way his happy family'd fallen apart. He couldn't disagree.

'A new life', he figured. He'd start it in Port Island. Start up a PI service. That liscence--it was still good for somethin', huh? He found himself a shitty one-bedroom place and tried putting the pieces of his fucked up jigsaw of a life back together. Old habits die hard.
